[Character name] Motonari Mouri
[Age] Unknown. Capcom's really bad at giving information for its characters. No specific age is given for him, but he is described as "young" and roughly around the same age range as Motochika Chosokabe (who is 22).
[Canon] Sengoku Basara
[Point in time taken from canon] Red Route, Before joining with the Ishida Forces

[Personality]
Motonari is a smart, cunning, innovative and wily tactician first and foremost. Selfish, imperious and self-centred, he is ruled by logic and rational decisions with a mind rivaled by very few in the warring states. For him, emotions and impulses are no ways to lead or do battle. He is not a compassionate leader as all are below him. As the "Child of the Sun" and thusly of a nature beyond humans, Motonari thinks of his soldiers and the people under his rule as nothing more than pawns to be thrown away. They should be sacrificing themselves to protect him, as he believes that none will ever rise or can even hope to rise to his station. Thus they might as well make themselves useful for his own advancement.

When it comes to impulses and feelings, he believes that people who use these to guide them are boorish and leave themselves open to be used. Just because he doesn't like them doesn't mean that he doesn't understand how they work, or how people work for that matter. He will use people in a heartbeat if it means that he gets what he wants. He is not stupid in the way he handles people and is often able to assess their motivations and character and use that to his advantage. This is the underpinnings of his relationship with Otani Yoshitsugu, the only person he would vaguely consider a friend. Both of them know that they are able to stab each other in the back in the blink of an eye so they form an uneasy partnership with that mutual understanding.

Motonari has an inherent distrust in people, always keeping them at a distance. For him, all his emotions are kept at bay for they interfere too much with thought to be of any use. Motonari trusts his own person and only his own person. He needs only himself, and if he has himself he is never lonely or never needing others. He very rarely doubts himself or if he does, he can quickly retract and reformulate quickly. The man is a master of insults and finding weak points and will use these two to have a leg up. Friendships mean nothing. Bonds are divisible and weak. To Motonari, everything is disposable and all is tools to be used for his gain. Trust is irrelevant. Trust is a waste of time.

This is subsequently a reason for why he joins the Western Army, Tokugawa Ieyasu's "campaign" as it were relies on the bonds between people and that kind of talk is something Mouri despises. It is also the source of his neverending feud with Motochika Chosokabe, his neighbour over at the island of Shikoku. The perpetual thorn in his side, Motonari believes that Motochika is weak because he cares far too much for his men, his people and it is a waste of his time and energies. However he does applaud Motochika's persistence, even if he utterly hates him. The fact that he can make Motonari's plans fall to pieces with his brash attitude surprises even him, as he is the perfect exemplification of things Motonari just does not and will not do.

Besides this, Motonari feels all should respect him. A wrong turn and you could be dead, which leads to many of his men begging for forgiveness as he bids them to fight to the death for the sake of the sun. Which leads to another key facet to his personality - the sun. Motonari Mori believes that he is the Child of the Sun. Everything he does is linked to the sun in some way or form. Many of his canon powers are bestowed by the sun, and it is what influences his weapon change between the first Sengoku Basara to subsequent titles from a war baton to a ringblade around his person. Motonari feels that his intelligence is otherworldly, that it was given to him to capitalise upon the ground he walked and the people under his command. He believes that he has been bestowed with the divine protection of the sun and thus he behaves as he pleases, which usually means he is a bastard to everyone. He tramples over people. Though he claims to do things under the name of the sun, it also masks his true system of honour and virtue which does exist, despite his actions of backstabbing, underhanded deals and general devious scheming. He believes in nothing other than the sun, and he feels like he is not indebted to explain it to any one other than himself.

[Abilities]
Motonari is from Sengoku Basara, the series where the main character rides a horse with motorcycle handles and one character apparently is a Gundam in the Sengoku era. Everyone's skills are a little crazy. His main element association is light and many of his attacks consist of him using what can only be described as sunlasers. This gif, ultimately will explain better than words can. His actual powers are not as destructive as those depicted though.

The theme of his skills are "rings" "light" and "traps." His main weapon is a ringblade which can separate into two halves (previously it was a war baton) which he uses to slash and twirl around enemies. His abilities with light allow him to do things such as form illusions of himself which can distract the enemy, encircle the enemy in a deadly ring of light and he can summon sunbeams to burn his enemies.

[Other important stuff]
Oh glorious sun! If it isn't obvious, Motonari is completely obsessed with the sun. He'll be slightly frustrated with the idea of having to deal with Moon Cycles, just on principle.

[Sample post]
[First Person]
- You are suddenly told you are the child of an ancient prophecy to save the world. How do you feel? Will you embark on your journey? Or would you rather shove it onto someone else and run away? Explain.
[Motonari laughs, his demeanor showing his utter amusement to this question.]

I am the child of an ancient prophecy. Do realise who you are talking to, for if I were in a worse mood I would have you killed. You are here asking my questions by my good graces. I am Motonari Mouri, Child of the Sun. I have been on my noble quest for the House of Mouri and the safety of my home of Aki since I was young. Ishida Mitsunari can do what he wishes with the rest of Hi-no-Moto as long as Aki is mine.

- Murder. What is your opinion?
A necessity.

[He pauses, thinking as if the answer to the question is sufficient. When it is clear that there will be no progress unless he elaborates, Motonari sighs.]

I have no qualms of throwing away the lives of those who are unworthy to live. But murder is a word with such... malice attached to it. There is no need for such emotions to be attached to something required for the continued glory of the sun. If there is dead weight, you simply cut it. Nothing more. If there is treachery, then you eliminate it before it spreads.

- If you could fight in a giant robot, what would it be and what would you do?
If I could fight a giant robot? Do you mean the armoured sentinel of Tokugawa Ieyasu?

[He raises an eyebrow at this question but his response comes quick enough.]

Junk.

[A smirk.]

There is no doubt that if I had to challenge him, I will win. He is but a mere pawn who can do nothing without his puppetmaster. Despite his size and strength, I shall outwit him.

- You see a bloody knife on the floor. What do you do or think?
I think nothing of it, and leave it be. Perhaps even call for someone to clean it.

[This is a lie. He says he thinks nothing but really he would be more alert. Someone is either clumsy or leaving a sign. Neither of which is good, but he appears unaffected so that in the event it is the latter, he will not be caught off guard.]

- You discover someone stalking you. Do you call the police or deal with it yourself?
I shall capture them, interrogate them and find out what is their purpose. If they refuse to answer, they will meet certain death. One skulks around like a lowly ninja to attain information, do they not?

- If you could destroy a city, how would you do it?
Hahahahaha.

[The laugh is derisive and short.]

So low on your own ideas that you turn to me? I shall give you some idea of how I shall do it but should I find that you use them, I will deal with you swiftly.

[Motonari clears his throat, his eyes closing as he momentarily visualises his plan. His eyes open once again when the thought is fully formed.]

Very well. I shall instruct my armies to position mirrors around the perimeter of the city. Each mirror is positioned so that when the sun's light strikes it at the beginning of the dawn, it shall turn destructive and disintegrate many of the buildings. As the sun rises, so shall the power of the beams. When the sun is at its highest point in the sky, all shall be reduced to ash. I shall send in my armies to clear the debris. I have to do nothing more than simply order the attack and watch from a distance.

[Third Person]
It's cold and raining. Their umbrella has blown over and is no longer usable. There are three buildings they could run to: 1) the closest is a dark, decrepit old shack that looks like it could fall over any minute, 2) a little ways down the street is an old, abandoned house, but is that blood dripping from the window...?, 3) three blocks up there is a nice hotel all lit up and looks pretty safe.

Motonari despises the rain. He despises the overcast cloud and he despises the cold feel of water that drips from his hair to creep into his back through his neck, wetting his clothes and making him feel uncomfortable. It is an unpleasant experience, to have to deal with this rain. What rubbish this umbrella he took was, for it did not serve the one purpose it was meant to fulfill. Useless.

There is not a second thought to Motonari discarding the broken umbrella, throwing it as far as he could away from him in frustration. The wind blows it back to him, which prompts him to kick it with a snarl. Persistent as well as useless. The umbrella him reminded of a certain pirate he knew who embodied both qualities.

His train of thought is interrupted by the wind and the rain picking up. Blinking away water from his eyes, Motonari straightens up. He must seek shelter for it will not do to simply stand in the rain like an idiot.

The first place which catches his eye is a shack that is barely more than pieces of wood propped against each other in some semblance of resembling a house. There is no way that he would go and spend the rest of the downpour in a place that would fall around him (and he knew it would fall around him should he even walk towards it!). Motonari turns and quickly proceeds down the street, his heels clicking against the slick pavement. How frustrating that he allowed himself to get caught in this incessant rain!

Motonari's progress down the street leads him to a house that strikes him as much sturdier than his first option. But something about this empty house turns him off completely - it is not the fact that there is blood dripping from the window. It is the fact that the house is dark. He pauses as he observes the house. The dim light from the sky does not seem to touch this house. If he didn't know better he could have sworn that the house was absorbing the light.

He promptly turns once again. He is a man determined to find shelter worthy of his person. Even if his clothes are soaked and his senses assaulted by the needles of rain and wind, he does not stop walking. In the distance, there is a light. Motonari sees it and seeks it, he shall not waver until he reaches that hotel!

[Why do you want to play this character in Somarium?] I really love Motonari but it's been really hard finding a game for him since he's... special. I'm hoping Somarium will be the one.
[Which rule was your favorite and why?] All... of them?
[Where did you hear about Somarium?] I have a fair amount of friends who play here!
[Any questions?] None that I can think of!
